The Story of the West Covina Symphony Orchestra:

Once upon a time.....there was a full symphony orchestra thriving in the city of West Covina, complete with holiday concerts, volunteers, children's concerts, and opportunities for everyone to hear fantastic music - usually free! The symphony was in its prime in the late 1960's and 70's - and that's when Sylvia Mann began to perform with them. She was still a student in the West Covina Public Schools, but she held her own as one the top musicians of the West Covina Symphony Orchestra.

When Sylvia returned to West Covina, she found that the symphony was gone. Communities need symphony orchestras - we need music of all types. Think of being able to hear a symphony right here! No long drives, no parking hassles downtown. Instead, we can enjoy the music right here in our hometown. Our children will learn the beauty of all types of music. Our quality of life will get even better than it already is.

Music brings people together and enriches our lives. We need all the music we can get! Our purpose is to enrich our community by engaging audiences and inspiring a love of music through exciting live symphony performances, innovative programming, and educational outreach. Why do we need music ? - check out this video:

Under the baton and dynamic leadership of Dr. Sylvia Lee Mann, the West Covina Symphony Orchestra, in its first 3 months of operation, has presented a full holiday concert, as a gift to the city to begin it's "Season of New Beginnings", as well as 3 additional holiday events, and a full classical concert featuring music of Saint-Saens, Bizet and Mendelssohn! Everyone enjoyed the Dec 10th (Holiday Tree Lighting for the City of West Covina), Dec. 14th (Holiday Concert). Dec 23rd (Senior Center Luncheon), the January 4th Rose Float Family Celebration. and the wonderful "Concert of Romance" presented on February 8, 2009 @ 3pm at the West Covina United Methodist Church. On April 9th we presented our "Concert for the Arts" on April 9th in the amphitheatre at the West Covina Civic Center Courtyard - no rain - just a bit cold for weather - but what a wonderful experience! - Swan Lake, A visit to two operas, and Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition"! And the season finale - our "Spirit odf America" concert on June 27th was a resounding, exciting success. We have more than doubled our audience in our very first season - and the price for these orchestra concert? - All Free! - coming up soon - our "Pops goes the Summer" - light fare concert on Sunday August 30th  - make you plans now - reserve the date!
